I have been assisting clients for over 35 years, helping them to invest wisely and therefore provide an ever growing income stream, creating a productive retirement which could last 30 years or more into the future. I specialize in programs designed to help produce legacies for loved ones as well as an income that cannot be outlived. Having completed the two-year course work through Boston University, I have been awarded the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. and own the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP® in the U.S.. I am well versed in all financial planning issues including estate, tax, income, retirement and liability planning.

Born and raised in Long Beach, CA, I first attended the University of California at Irvine and then finished at Long Beach State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. My career started with E.F. Hutton in 1987 as an Account Executive, I then moved my practice to Merrill Lynch in 1990 and earned the title of Assistant Vice President. In 1997, I decided to move my family to South Orange County and also transition my practice to PaineWebber in Newport Beach where I became a Vice President – Investments. In 2003, I chose to embrace the American Dream and own my own business and became independent with Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. where I am a Co-Manager of the San Juan Branch. I currently reside in Laguna Niguel (since 1997) with my wife Kathleen, also a Long Beach State grad, and our four children, Daniel 31, Christine 28, Michael 24, and Meghan 21.

Besides enjoying a fulfilling career helping clients achieve their personal financial goals, I stay very active with my family, coach soccer, attend Irish Dance competitions and band concerts, and go on infamous annual motorhome trips. I am an avid handball player and compete in competitions and tournaments routinely on a national level throughout the year.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, CFP® (with plaque design) and CFP® (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.

Philosophy

My approach to this business has always been to build relationships by treating others as I myself would want to be treated: with honesty, courtesy and professionalism.  I believe in a consultative approach that is process driven and institutionally influenced.  I believe that relationships are built on trust and trust comes with time, integrity and sound advice.  Over time I have gained the trust of my clients by placing their needs second to none:  by providing appropriate investment advice, by meeting with them regularly and by keeping them abreast of any changes in their investments.  In short, I differentiate myself from others in this profession by maintaining a long term approach based on a relationship of mutual trust, understanding and respect in the knowledge that the greater the value I provide to my clients, the greater the success we will both achieve.

Background

I am a native Californian who has spent most of my life in Orange County.  My parents moved to Laguna Niguel on July 4th, 1973 when I was five years old.  I am a graduate of UCLA, class of 1991.  I received my undergraduate degree in History with a minor in Business.  I entered the financial industry in 1993 and worked with PaineWebber for over five years.  In October of 1998, I took a promotion with Prudential Securities as Vice President – Investments.  In March of 2003, I opened my own independent branch with Raymond James.  In August of 2003 I became a Registered Securities Principal by passing the Series 9 and 10 exams.  I have been happily married to my wife, Kelli since June of 1994 and we have four children together; Parker (25), twins - Peyton, and Reed (23) & Bella (13).  After living in Aliso Viejo and Mission Viejo, we settled in Laguna Niguel in the summer of 2002.

Scenario

Successful investing is becoming an increasingly difficult task for many individuals today.  Interest rates are increasing, tax laws have changed, the stock market is extremely volatile, and you have more investment choices today than ever before.  Fact is, with over 30,000 stocks worldwide to choose from and over 12,000 different mutual funds, most investors lack either the time, the knowledge or desire necessary to make the best decisions in planning for retirement, education funding or other long term financial goals.

In the financial services industry, it has been my experience that people generally want to accomplish three things.  First, pay as little as possible in taxes.  Second, have the financial ability to educate their children.  And finally, enjoy a comfortable, worry-free retirement.  Unfortunately, it has also been my experience that the same things that people most want from their investments they have not had the time to properly plan for.

The point is, planning for your future obligations and dreams is not an easy task.  It takes discipline, sacrifice and patience and with all the variables that come into play, attempting it alone makes the task even more difficult.  I look forward to providing you the service you deserve and sharing with you my conservative, custom made portfolio management style that will not only help you reach your financial goals, but ultimately give you greater financial independence.
